Import permit is now a must for importing insecticides for non-insecticidal use

The Insecticides Third Amendment Rules, 2026 wrote the import-permit requirement into the Insecticides Rules, 1971. CBIC has asked customs officers to enforce it, and it names acrylonitrile.

What an importer should do

  • Check whether what you import is listed in the Schedule to the Insecticides Act, 1968, even if you use it for something other than pest control.
  • If it is, obtain the import permit before the goods arrive, applying in the stipulated Form.
  • Applications already pending with the CIB&RC secretariat are to be dealt with under the revised guidelines, so expect to be asked for the new Form.
