HSN Code Finder — Find HSN Codes for GST Invoices (Updated 2026)

Updated: 3 June 2026  |  Based on WCO HSN 2022 & CBIC GST Rate Schedules  |  Verify at cbic-gst.gov.in

HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) codes are 6–8 digit codes used on GST invoices to classify goods. Businesses with turnover above ₹5 crore must use 6-digit HSN codes; between ₹1.5–5 crore use 4-digit codes; up to ₹1.5 crore are exempt. Use the search tool or the chapter table below to find your product's code.
Turnover Rule: > ₹5 Cr → 6-digit HSN mandatory. Between ₹1.5–5 Cr → 4-digit HSN. Below ₹1.5 Cr → HSN optional (but recommended). 8-digit HSN is mandatory for imports and exports on all invoices and shipping bills.

Search by product name or HSN code number — our interactive tool maps to the correct chapter, heading, and GST rate instantly.

9971Financial and related services
9972Real estate services

HS Code vs HSN Code: "HS Code" and "HSN Code" refer to the same system (Harmonised System). In India, "HSN Code" is the common GST term, while "HS Code" is used in customs/trade contexts. ITC-HS codes (8-digit) are used for import/export classification and are maintained by DGFT. For GST invoicing purposes, use 4 or 6 digit HSN as applicable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find the HSN code for my product?
Use our HSN Code Finder tool on this page or search at cbic-gst.gov.in under the "Tax/Rate > HSN/SAC" menu. You can search by product name or enter a partial HSN number. The GST portal also has a searchable rate finder under Services > User Services > Search HSN/SAC Code.
What is the difference between HSN and SAC codes?
HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) codes are used for goods — physical products you manufacture or trade. SAC (Services Accounting Code) codes are used for services. Both are mandatory on GST invoices and GSTR-1. HSN codes are numeric (4, 6, or 8 digits) while SAC codes are 6-digit codes starting with 99.
Is HSN code mandatory for B2C invoices?
For B2C invoices, HSN is mandatory only if annual turnover exceeds ₹5 crore (6-digit HSN required). For turnover between ₹1.5 crore and ₹5 crore, B2B invoices require 4-digit HSN but B2C invoices may not require it. Below ₹1.5 crore, HSN is optional on invoices but recommended for accuracy.
What happens if the wrong HSN code is used on an invoice?
Using a wrong HSN code may cause GSTR-1 filing errors, ITC mismatch for your buyer, and potential scrutiny from the GST department. Correct it by filing an amended GSTR-1 in the next month. There is no specific monetary penalty for wrong HSN, but it can trigger audit notices and demand proceedings.
Are HSN codes the same internationally?
The first 6 digits of HSN are internationally harmonized under the World Customs Organization (WCO) standard, used by 200+ countries. India uses 8-digit ITC-HS codes for customs (import/export). For GST invoicing, 4 or 6 digits are required. The first 4-6 digits of Indian HSN align with international codes.
