Common ownership codes: PLC — Public Limited Company, PTC — Private Limited Company, OPC — One Person Company, GOI — Government of India company, SGC — State Government Company, NPL — Section 8 (Not-for-Profit). LLPs use a separate 7-character LLPIN, searchable on the official MCA portal.

Where this data comes from

Data source: Registrars of Companies (RoC)-wise Company Master Data, published by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on the Open Government Data Platform. The dataset is refreshed periodically, so very recent incorporations or status changes may not appear yet — for a live check (including directors and filings), use the official MCA21 portal. Name search needs the full registered name; if unsure, search by CIN.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a CIN?

CIN (Corporate Identification Number) is a unique 21-character alphanumeric number assigned by the Registrar of Companies (ROC) to every company registered in India. It appears on the Certificate of Incorporation and on the company's MCA records.

What can I find using the CIN lookup tool?

The lookup surfaces a company's key master details — such as its registered name, date of incorporation, registration state (ROC), company status and classification — drawn from public MCA data.

How is a CIN structured?

The 21 characters encode: the listing status (1 letter — L for listed, U for unlisted), a 5-digit industry code, the state code (2 letters), the year of incorporation (4 digits), the ownership type (3 letters, e.g. PTC/PLC), and a 6-digit ROC registration number.

Is the CIN lookup tool free to use?

Yes. The CIN lookup on TaxClue is free. It reads from publicly available company master data — you do not need to log in.

Can I see a company's directors from the CIN?

Master data gives you the company's identity and status. Detailed director and financial information is available through paid MCA services — TaxClue can help you obtain a full company report or director details on request.
